The Actress Says Speaking About Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly against the Trump administration, concerned it could worsen unhelpful debate and increase separation within the country.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence

Speaking with media, the Oscar winner commented, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was moving hastily without clear direction. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, celebrities fail to influence at all on voter decisions.”

She continued, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on a matter that’s going to heighten conflict that’s ripping the country apart.”

Shifting Views

Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both right and leftwing candidates over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 before joining the Democratic party and stating she understood during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was voting against her individual liberties as a female citizen.

Previous Comments

In 2015, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency would be “a catastrophic event” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she voiced her backing to Vice President Harris, “because I believe she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

Lawrence was aligned with most of Hollywood in her rejection of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the public choices was emphasized by the outcome.

“The second term seems distinct,” commented she regarding his leadership. “As he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”

Current Projects

The actor is highlighting the drama, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she stars as a new mother who faces challenges with her mental health in rural Montana. At a press conference for the film in the film festival, she commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s terrible.”

Broader Concerns

The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the discussions of American politics currently and how that is going to be accepted to the kids right now. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”

Lawrence sought to redirect frustration about the situation to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on those accountable,” she advised, seen by observers as a nod to the declaration signed by more than 4,000 arts community members to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.

Relatable Experiences

Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her performance in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in Die, My Love. While Lynne Ramsay has rejected the narrative being interpreted as one of post-birth struggles and mental illness, Lawrence shared that she did relate to aspects of her character’s journey after the delivery of her youngest child, shortly after production wrapped.

“It was fear about my child,” she said, “imagining every negative outcome, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a treatment called the prescription and I used it for two weeks and it really helped.”

Film Challenges

Jennifer Lawrence also discussed about the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the film while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.

“It feels nice,” she commented, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
